Rod Harrison has the rare distinction of being known throughout the flyfishing world by his nickname. The first non-American to be appointed to the Sage advisory staff, Harro has fished on five continents and in four oceans. His thoroughly researched and entertaining writings have been published in a number of languages. He also served on the Rio advisory staff until founder Jim Vincent sold the company. Thesedays, other than his own boutique product, Bionic braid, a World leading, Australian made dyneema backing and lure fishing line, Rod remains unaligned. His barramundi experiences have taken him through their known world and includes guiding stints in Arnhemland, the Kimberley and Gulf of Papua. He has been fishing at Lake Awoonga since 1993 and in two (and final) tournament appearances there, placings include a win and runner-up for his two man team. His long awaited book – “Barra” – is a body of work that will establish as the authority in it’s field. His observations are treated with respect by the ichthyology and ornithological communities. He has been published on rare Australian raptors in prestigious journals. Laidback and laconic, Harro has probably shared more boats than anyone. His fish finding and casting has earned enormous respect, his quick wit and willingness to share, countless friends. Mentor and close friend Lefty Kreh calls Rod “one of Australia’s living treasures”. Harro is a standout teacher of fishing skills with a bottomless pit of shortcuts and rigging tricks. His people skills are such that a day on the water becomes a memorable learning experience.
