Snuggled amid foothills 40kms west of the modern port city of Gladstone (serviced every few hours by Qantas Link flights from Brisbane) million mega-litre Lake Awoonga has been stocked with over 2.5million barramundi fingerlings. The have matured into a mother-lode of trophy fish. More metre plus barra are taken at Lake Awoonga than any other water.

Lake Awoonga has become an oasis for birds of all description and especially waterfowl, waders and raptors.
